PURC Deepens Engagements Against Illegal Connection Activities in The Northern Region

The Northern Regional office of the PURC is taking steps to deepen engagements with chiefs, elders, consumer groups, associations, the media, religious leaders, opinion leaders, and the consuming public against the activities of illegal connections in the region.  The move by the regional office is consistent with the Commission's theme of the year – Strategic Impact on one hand and the difficulty of NEDCo meeting its revenue mobilization targets on the other hand.

The regional office believes that one of the best ways to actualize the theme for the year is through collaborative regulation. Similarly, the office is cognizant of the fact that intensive and sustained regulatory and collective efforts with relevant stakeholders, and strategic responses to their challenges throughout the year would go a long way to discourage many consumers from power theft in the region.

Staff of the regional office have so far engaged hundreds of consumers in selected communities within the region and the feedback from these engagements is very encouraging. Communities engaged so far include; Dalung, Katariga, Zagyuri, Tamale Dungu among others.
