Executive Secretary of PURC Pays Courtesy Call on Wa Naa

The Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Dr. Shafic Suleman, as part of the Commission's planned and sustained efforts to engage with stakeholders, paid a courtesy call on the Wa Naa (Naa Seidu Fuseini Pelpuo IV, Overlord of Waala Traditional Council)  to officially inform him of his appointment as Executive Secretary of PURC by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana.

Dr. Suleman sought the blessings of the Overlord of the Wala traditional area as he embarked on a maiden Regional Tours, starting in the Upper West Region.

Dr. Suleman expressed appreciation for the warm reception and indicated that he is familiar with the Region, having spent most of his childhood in the Upper West. He encouraged the Chief and elders to present all their challenges on water and electricity service provision for resolution by the Commission. “The Commission is mandated to protect the interest of utility service providers and consumers”, he said.

The Chief's spokesperson, on behalf of the Overlord, Chiefs and elders, thanked Dr. Suleman and his team for following due protocol of visiting the Chief’s palace first before commencing any stakeholder engagements. However, he raised concerns about the quality of supply of water and electricity service provision, and the unavailability of meters at NEDCo for customers. He reiterated the issue of power fluctuations and rampant outages, mostly without prior notice.

Dr. Suleman assured the Overlord and all gathered of carrying their concerns to the utility service providers whilst the rest would go through the Commission's complaints handling procedures to get their concerns resolved.
