The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission organised a stakeholder sensitisation workshop on Consumer Issues and Enforcement Processes on 19th May 2026 in Koforidua. The workshop formed part of the Commission’s continuing efforts to strengthen regulatory compliance, improve consumer service delivery, and deepen engagement between the Commission and utility service providers. The programme brought together Regional and District Officers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Water Limited (GWL), as well as representatives of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) across the Eastern Region.
Presentations and discussions focused primarily on the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (Consumer Service) Regulations, 2020 (L.I. 2413) particularly on consumer rights, utility obligations, complaint management, service standards, and enforcement processes. Participants discussed a number of operational and regulatory issues affecting utility service delivery and consumer protection, and the role of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the operations of the utility companies.
It was noted that many of the challenges affecting utility service delivery arise from a combination of operational constraints, consumer awareness gaps, infrastructure protection issues, and regulatory compliance challenges.
The discussions underscored the importance of continuous stakeholder engagement, public education, and strengthened collaboration among PURC, utility service providers, the Energy Commission, local authorities, and other relevant institutions. Participants also highlighted the need for enhanced consumer education on service acquisition procedures, metering requirements, utility obligations, and complaint resolution mechanisms.
The workshop served as an important platform for constructive engagement between the Commission and utility service providers in the Eastern Region. It reaffirmed PURC’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding consumer interests and ensuring strict regulatory compliance, while fostering collaboration with stakeholders to enhance the quality of service delivery.
