The Northern Regional office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) on Friday, October 25, 2024, presented a copy of the verification report on sample meter accuracy test to the “Concerned Youth Against Smart Meters in Tamale”.
This is a follow up on a complaint lodged to the Commission by some customers of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company Limited (NEDCo), particularly those in Lamashegu, Nyohani, and Jisonayili, on the installation of Longi brand of meters, which NEDCo started deploying in the Tamale metropolis.
In addressing the complaint, the Commission constituted a joint technical investigations team (PURC/NEDCo) to conduct a technical audit and accuracy test to ascertain the veracity of the claims made by the aggrieved customers. The report of the investigations and its findings has been shared with the group's leadership for their study. The Commission commended the group for their patience and confidence in the Commission to facilitate a resolution of their complaint against the deployment of the Longi Meters.
The group thanked PURC for the report and pledged to abide by the findings in the report.
The Commission, has subsequently rolled out a deliberate stakeholder engagement plan to engage all relevant stakeholders to bring closure to the protracted impasse between NEDCo and some customers in parts of Tamale.
