
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission, on October 9, 2024, handed over three (3) mechanized and one (1) hand pump boreholes to four Communities in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region. This is part of the Commission’s Pro-Poor Water project program which seeks to provide safe drinking water to deprived communities in the Country.
The mechanized boreholes come with a 10,000-liter overhead tank with two (2) low taps and two overhead taps serving a population of approximately 5,000 people in the three (3) communities namely Amudrasi, Onyang, and Dotom with the hand-pump Bore-hole serving a little over 1,000 people in the Kwame Nkyi Community.
The Commission handed over the projects in a short ceremony held at the Dotom Community in the Adansi South District in collaboration with the Ghana Water Limited (GWL). Present at the occasion were the Regional Chief Manager, Ashanti North Region of GWL Ing. Theophilus Collins, and the District Coordinating Director for Adansi South District Assembly, Alhaji Hussein Haruna Nkansah.
Mr. Frank Agyekumhene, the Acting Ashanti Regional Manager of PURC in his opening remarks implored the Dotom community to adopt a better maintenance culture to enhance the sustainability of the Propoor water project.
The Regional Chief Manager for the Ashanti North Region of GWL, Ing. Theophilus Collins lauded the PURC for their commitment to funding the Pro-poor water projects across the country and indicated the commitment of GWL to ensuring that clean and safe water reaches all citizens of the country. He further advised community members on water conservation and cleanliness tips to avoid contamination.
The District Coordinating Director of the Adansi South District Assembly, Alhaji Hussein Haruna Nkansah, thanked the PURC for the initiative and for recognizing the Adansi South District with these water projects.
He further called on the Chief and his traditional leaders and community members to adopt a maintenance culture to take very good care of the water projects handed over to them. He assured the community that the District Assembly will always come to their aid in terms of any future challenges.
The Chief of the Dotom Community, Nana Yaw Owusu expressed gratitude to the Commission for the initiative and further assured the Commission that, proper maintenance culture would be upheld to ensure the sustainability of the projects.
