PURC Engages Management of NEDCo & Ghana Water Limited (GWL) At Sunyani & Techiman

The Executive Secretary Oof PURC, Dr. Ishmael Ackah paid a working visit to the Bono East (Techiman) and Bono (Sunyani) Regions on October 12 and 13, 2023 respectively, where he engaged with utility service providers (NEDCo & GWL) in the region. The purpose of the visit was to interact with service providers at the regional level, acquaint himself with their challenges on the field and to proffer ways to tackle these challenges.

Dr Ackah in a meeting at the Techiman, and Sunyani office, commended Management of the two areas for the good job done in their operational areas, in the face of all the adversities, while calling for collaborations between the PURC and NEDCo.

He further, entreated Management of the Sunyani office to embark on peer learning with the Techiman office to establish a robust energy sector in the Bono enclave.

The Director of Regional Operations and Consumer Services, Alhaji Jabaru Abukari, commended the Techiman area office for coming up first in the 2021 GUPI scoring within the NEDCo operational areas.

The Chief manager of GWL in Sunyani, enumerated various challenges such as pipeline extension to consumer points among others. Others challenges include the influx of independent borehole water producers who are competing with Ghana Water Limited (GWL) in their distributional zones, as well as menace of small-scale illegal mining and its attendant negative impact along the catchment areas of GWL.

The Director, of Regional Operations and Consumer Services, Alhaji Abukari, impressed upon the GWL to devise strategies, which could make new service connections attractive to would-be customers.

Dr. Ackah entreated GWL to embark on more educational programs in collaboration with the PURC regional office to sensitize consumers on the need to connect with the services of the GWL for quality water service delivery, while cautioning community members to desist from practices, which would compromise the quality of raw water.

Dr. Ackah and his team also visited a local FM radio station in the Bono region, where he granted an interview to Sompa 98.9 FM in Sunyani. Dr. Ackah encouraged consumers to first visit the utility service providers with their complaints and follow up to the PURC, when responses and resolutions were unsatisfactory.
