The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has opened an office in Techiman, the regional capital of the Bono East Region. The Techiman office is the eleventh regional office of the Commission and has been in operation since March 1, 2024. It is also the first office to be opened by the Commission in the newly created six administrative regions of the country.
This office was established as part of the Commission’s efforts to decentralize its operations to stakeholders within the catchment area, protect stakeholder interests, and ensure the delivery of high-quality services by service providers. This is in line with the Commission’s theme for the year 2024, which is “a year of strategic impact”.
In its four months of operation, the Bono East Regional Office of the Commission has recovered an amount of Ghs123,927.86 for the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo). The customer, Bui Sugar Limited at Banda benefited from a credit adjustment to the tune of Ghs 35,643.10.
The recovered and credit adjustment amount came about as a result of an undercharge which occurred for several months in 2023 as a result of some under-readings of the four (4) meters at the factory.
The Regional Office as part of the complaint management procedure of the Commission, conducted investigations into the complaint and identified under readings on the part of the service provider.
The office has carried out several activities including complaint management, public education and visits to announce its presence and to increase visibility. Some of these activities include street walks, leaflet distribution, education for associations and groups and mass media education.
