PURC Commissions Four Mechanised Boreholes for Hohoe Communities

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has commissioned and officially handed over four (4) mechanized boreholes to selected communities in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region, aimed at improving access to safe and reliable potable water.

The beneficiary communities are Wli Agorviefe, Fodome Dzogbega, Klokpo Kpegbadzi, and Boodocks (By Firedown). The facilities were formally handed over on January 22, 2026 by the PURC Volta Regional team in collaboration with the Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Prosper Kumi.

Each borehole is fitted with a 10,000-litre water storage tank, two overhead standpipes and two ground-level standpipes and is expected to serve an estimated 10,000 residents. Before the intervention, many residents depended on unsafe and unreliable water sources to meet their daily water needs.

The handover ceremonies were well attended by chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, assembly members, teachers and community members, reflecting the importance of the project to the local population. Receiving the facilities on behalf of the Municipal Assembly, Hon. Prosper Kumi expressed profound appreciation to the PURC, describing the intervention as timely, given the persistent challenges of access to potable water in the beneficiary communities.

Community leaders, including chiefs and elders, also commended the Commission for the initiative, noting that the boreholes have already begun to significantly improve living conditions and public health outcomes.

The PURC Regional Manager, Mr. Philip Agbezudor advised the beneficiary communities to put in place effective maintenance and management mechanisms to ensure the sustainability of the facilities and guarantee long-term benefits for residents.
