PURC Commissions Four Mechanised Boreholes in Akatsi South; Local Leaders Express Gratitude

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has commissioned and handed over four mechanized boreholes to residents of four communities in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region.  The Boreholes are part of the Commission's pro-poor water projects dotted across the Country. The beneficiary communities are Whute Wugate, Live Manyokope, Bata Basic School, and Kovenu.

On behalf of the Commission, the facilities were officially handed over on March 11, 2026, by the PURC Volta Regional team in collaboration with the Akatsi South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Daniel Dagba.

Three of the boreholes are fitted with 10,000-litre water storage tanks, two overhead standpipes and two ground-level taps each, while the fourth facility at Whute Wugate is a manual borehole equipped with a hand pump. The installations are expected to provide safe and reliable drinking water to an estimated 8,000 residents who previously depended on unsafe water sources for their daily needs.

The handover ceremony was attended by chiefs, opinion leaders, assembly members, teachers, and residents of the beneficiary communities. Receiving the projects on behalf of the Municipal Assembly, the MCE, Hon. Daniel Dagba, expressed profound gratitude to the PURC, noting that access to potable water had long been a major challenge in the affected communities.

Community members also commended the Commission for the intervention, stating that the project has already begun to improve the quality of life of residents.

On behalf of the Executive secretary of the Commission, the Volta Regional PURC team encouraged the communities to put in place effective maintenance measures to ensure the proper management and long-term sustainability of the facilities.
