
The Northern Regional Office of the Commission, has since the beginning of 2024, engaged stakeholders through a regulatory platform dubbed “Community Dialogue Series”.
The exercise is part of the Commission’s sustained and strategic efforts to ensure that consumers of electricity and water in the region understand the impact of illegal connections and its adverse effects on the quality of utility service delivery in the region. The dialogue series seeks to achieve significant reduction in illegal activities and ensure the regular payment of monthly bills by the consuming public in the region.
Twenty-one (21) communities have been visited in the region. The PURC team extensively engaged Chiefs and their Elders, Imams, Associations, Assemblymen, Unit Committee members, Youth Groups, Students, and Teachers among others. The communities visited include Sambu, Nabligu, Bayanwire, Sang, Mion, Lanjeri, Sonaa Yagli, Zabzugu, Dagun, Zugu, Yendi, Kpong Tamale, Gumbihi-fong. Zugu, Dagun, Pong, Kpalyoe-fong, and Mahi-fong.
Participants in these communities were sensitised on how illegal connections affect investment decisions of the utility service providers and the need for a significant reduction of the undesirable situation in the region.
Concerns raised by stakeholders during the dialogue sessions have been documented and officially forwarded to the utilities for immediate redress.
