The Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission, Dr. Shafic Suleman, embarks on his first working visit to the Northern Region on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. The purpose of this visit is to formally introduce himself to the utility service providers, get to understand their operational challenges and seek their cooperation to build a solid regulatory regime.
Dr. Shafic held separate meetings with the Head Office and Area Office management and staff of NEDCo, the management of Ghana Water Limited, and then climaxed the day’s activities with the inspection of some Pro-Poor Water Projects in the Tamale South Constituency.
Dr. Shafic, engagements with the utility service providers reassured them about the Commission’s dedication to helping them achieve the benchmarks set by the Commission and also helping them overcome their operational challenges. The utility service providers admitted to some challenges affecting their operations and quality of service reliability, and assured the Commission that plans were far advanced to remedy those challenges.
Dr. Shafic, while admonishing the service providers to improve on quality of service delivery to customers, also assured the service providers that the Commission in the region could always lead the way in any stakeholder engagement for their effective operations, and therefore they should not hesitate to rely on the Commission when the need be.
Dr. Shafic also encouraged the Directors, Commercial and Finance of NEDCo, to motivate the Loss Control Team as a gesture for them to work harder and extra working hours to identify illegal connections done by customers and also make them unsusceptible to compromise.
The service providers commended Dr. Shafic Suleman and Management of the Commission and the team for the visit and disclosed that such visits always serve as an eye opener to them and also boost their morale to put in their best. They called on the Commission to support them by approving their requests for some of their investment projects, as that will enable them to improve their service quality and reliability.
