The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has hosted a four-member delegation from the Autorité Nationale de Régulation du secteur de l'Electricité de Côte d'Ivoire (ANARE-CI), Innovation Énergie Développement (IED) for a two-day benchmarking study on energy cost modeling practices from January 20-21, 2025.
In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of PURC, Dr. Ishmael Ackah, expressed his gratitude to the delegates for recognizing the Commission’s impact and regulatory efforts within the energy and water sectors and the PURC as a model utility regulator to be understudied.
Dr. Ackah emphasized that sharing knowledge and best practices among sister countries in the subregion demonstrates PURC's commitment to promoting excellence and innovation in utility regulation across Africa and the world. He assured the delegates of the Commission’s cooperation and productive discussions.
The primary objective of the delegation was to gain insights into PURC's cost modeling methodology and frameworks in the energy sector. This benchmarking study is crucial for identifying best practices, improving regulatory frameworks, and promoting collaboration among the participating institutions.
PURC delivered detailed presentations on current cost modeling approaches, regulatory impacts, and implementation challenges. The interactive nature of these sessions, which fostered deeper discussions on specific cost modeling techniques, ensured that all participants were fully engaged and part of the learning process.
The benchmarking study will significantly enhance regulatory effectiveness in the energy and water sectors and promote international cooperation. PURC remains committed to sharing knowledge and expertise with its regional partners and eagerly anticipates future collaborations with ANARE-CI and IED, fostering a sense of optimism and hope for the future of the energy and water sectors.
