Stakeholder Education - March 2021

Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (Consumer Service) Regulations, 2020 (L.I. 2413)

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) held a two-day training programme with the regulated utility companies on its newly passed legislative instrument – the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (Consumer Service) Regulations, 2020 (L.I 2413). The L.I, which is a consolidation of all prior regulations issued by the PURC, was passed by Parliament in November 2020. All other regulations of PURC have therefore been revoked upon the passing of the consolidated regulations.

The training was aimed at enhancing the knowledge of participants to bring them up to speed on current regulatory requirements, in the operation energy and water utilities with respect to consumer services. L.I 2413 contains various provisions that cover the provision of water services, which hitherto were not covered by the revoked regulations.

Participants of the training, whose contributions helped shape the regulations, applauded the passage of LI 2413 and called for continual education of both utility workers and the public, The Commission invites its stakeholders and the general public to access the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (Consumer Service) Regulations, 2020 (L.I. 2413) on its website (https://purc.com.gh/attachment/721760-20210305060329.pdf) or purchase a copy from the Ghana Publishing Company Ltd.
