PURC Commissions Pro-poor Water Projects in Hwibaa

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission, PURC has Commissioned Four Pro-Poor Water Projects at Hwibaa in the Ashanti Region as part of activities to mark its 25 years of existence.

Commissioning the projects, the Deputy Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources Hon. Amidu Issahaku Chinnia who was the Special Guest of Honour congratulated the board, Staff and Management of the Commission on the occasion of their 25th Anniversary Celebration.

He applauded the effective collaboration between the Ghana Water Company Ltd which is under the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources which has resulted in the provision of some 423 Water Projects around the country since 2012.

Hon Amidu Issahaku Chinnia also reiterated the president and government’s commitment to ensuring that, its global partnership responsibility of addressing Poverty and improving health and education particularly, the Sustainable Development Goal Six which calls for ensuring the sustainable Management of Water and Sanitation for all.

The Executive Secretary of the PURC, Dr. Ishmael Ackah in his welcome address, indicated that Water is Life and that access to hygiene and safe drinking water helps to save time for other productive activities and prevent Water Borne Diseases.

Dr. Ackah called on the chiefs and people of the Hwibaa to own the project and also maintain the facility for generations to come.

The Chiefs and residents of Hwibaa thanked the Board, Staff and Management of the Commission for providing them with the facility.

Present at the Commissioning ceremony included; the Dep. Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Mrs Dora Oppong, Mr. Patric Nyarko who are both Board Members of the Commission, Chiefs, Personnel from Ghana Water Company, Staff of the Commission and several other stakeholders of the Commission.
