The 2020 Female and Male Energy Personalities of the Year on Thursday, August 12, 2021, interacted with over 500 students from Nungua Senior High School in the Greater Accra Region during the Energy Personalities Outreach Program (EPOP). Mrs. Mami Dufie Ofori, Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), and Mr. Fred Oware, the immediate past Chief Executive of Bui Power Authority (BPA), were named the Female and Male Energy Personalities of the Year 2020, respectively.
“Impacting the Next Generation Leaders Today” was the theme of the event, which was organized by the Ghana Energy Awards Scheme (GEA). The purpose of the event was to inspire the younger generation to be the best they can be and, in particular, to pique their interest in the country's energy sector, which is a major contributor to the country's economic growth.
Mrs. Ofori encouraged the students to have a clear vision for their future, to stay focused, and to make sure that whatever they do has a positive impact on society. She urged the Senior High School students to be fully immersed in whatever they are doing and to show high levels of commitment. Mrs. Ellen Asare-Pepra, the school's Headmistress, received copies of the Commission's book entitled, "Navigating The Regulatory Path: Our Success Story -1997-2020." The books were donated to the school's library in order for students to learn more about the success story of regulations in the country's energy and water sectors.
Mr. Oware, on his part, urged the students to maintain a positive attitude in order to achieve success in life. He emphasized the importance of being truthful and sincere. He stated, "I don't know if there is anything that beats honesty."
The outreach program is a unique aspect of the Energy Awards Scheme, which affords the awardees to mentor the youth to excel in their careers.
