PURC Pays a Courtesy Call on the African Center for Energy Policy (ACEP)

Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Dr. Ishmael Ackah, together with some staff of the Commission, paid a courtesy call on the Management of ACEP on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the Commission’s stakeholder engagements and to explore areas of collaboration between the two institutions, concerning, data sharing on energy, research, policy dissemination, and advocacy.

Both institutions discussed their respective challenges, achievements, and opportunities in the energy sector and how best the regulator (PURC) and the research and policy analyst institution (ACEP) could harness the objectives of service quality delivery and how best to balance the interests of various stakeholders in the energy sector. Dr. Ackah explained that the Commission has a unique mandate of sitting between several interest groups and balancing their interests with steady hands, which calls for collaboration with institutions such as ACEP. He noted that the Commission has made efforts to strengthen its research capacity while enhancing efficiency in its operations and regulatory mandate.

The Executive Director of ACEP, Mr. Benjamin Boakye, congratulated Dr. Ackah on his appointment as the Executive Secretary of the PURC and reiterated the need for continuous stakeholder engagements in the energy sector. He indicated that ACEP was willing to cooperate with the regulator in all aspects to help build a robust and vibrant energy sector in the country.
