PURC Pays Working Visit to Facilities of Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) in the Western Region

The Commissioners and Management of PURC paid a working visit to facilities of the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) in the Western Region. The facilities visited include the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant and Transmission pipelines; the Takoradi Distribution Station; the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAGPCo) Metering Station; the Sekondi Regulating and Metering Station (SRMS); Amandi Receiving/Metering Station, and the Esiama Distribution Station.

The purpose of the visit was to have a first-hand experience of the operations of the Company, understand the challenges encountered by the Company and discuss how best to address those challenges. The visit was also geared towards exploring areas of improvement with specific reference to data sharing on a timely basis for decision making.

Discussions centred around GNGC’s right of way, given that the Company has a long stretch of onshore pipelines, the treatment of the weighted average cost of capital, efficiency, long term plans, sustainability and gas supplies to the Company’s customers among others. The Chief Executive Officer of GNGC, Dr. Ben Asante took the delegation through the operations of the Company and made presentations on components of the Weighted Average Cost of Gas and the volumes of gas expected from Jubilee and TEN gas fields.

The delegation from PURC included the Board headed by its Chairman, Mr. Ebo Quagrainie; and members, Dr. Adu Gyamfi, Mrs. Dora Oppong, Dr. Kwabena Otoo Nyarko, Mr. Patrick Nyarko, Mr. Ishmael Edjekumhene, and the Executive Secretary, Dr. Ishmael Ackah.  Staff of the Secretariat including the Director, Legal Services, Mrs. Nancy Atiemo; Director, Energy Services and Performance Monitoring, Ing. Fred Oblitey; Director, Research and Corporate Affairs, Dr. Eric Kofi Obutey; Secretary to the Board, Ms. Catherine Hodasi; Principal Manager, Mr. Robert Saka and Assistant Manager from the Regulatory Economics Directorate, Ms Ann Ansah.

GNGC members who were present include the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ben Asante and Management and staff of the Company.
