PURC Hosts Delegates from the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA), Uganda

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has hosted a seven-member delegation from the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA), Uganda from February 28 to March 4, 2022.

The visit was to strengthen the relationship between the PURC and ERA. The main objective of the study tour was to allow the delegates to learn about the Commission’s regulatory activities. The seven-member delegation was led by Prof. John Ddumba – Ssentamu, Authority Member. He was accompanied by Eng. Ziria Tibalwa Waako, Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Joseph Oteng Otogo, Authority Member, - Mr. Stephen Mwandha, Board Secretary, Dr. Richard Okou, Director Technical Services, Mr. Edward Iruura, Director Financial Services, and Juliet Mugoya Jacobs, Principal Executive Secretary.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Ishmael Ackah, the Ag. Executive Secretary of PURC expressed his appreciation to the delegates for recognizing the Commission’s impact and regulatory efforts within the energy and the water industry. He added that the visit would allow both parties to foster a beneficial relationship.

The delegates were taken through PURC’s Tariff Structure and Methodology as well as an overview of Energy Services and Performance Monitoring, among other areas of utility regulation in Ghana.

As part of their activities during the benchmarking study visit, the delegates visited the Energy Commission to be acquainted with their mandate and implementation of Local Content Regulations. They also visited the Ghana Grid Company to study their control systems respectively.

The delegates ended their study visit with a tour of the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum.
