Mr. Michael Opam is an Energy Sector Expert with vast experience in Engineering, Energy Economics and Policy Analysis. He holds an MSc in Energy Management and Policy from the University of Pennsylvania (USA), and a Diploma D’Ingenieur from ‘Ecole Nationale Superieure du Petrole et des Moteurs (ENSPM), Institut Fancais du Petrole (IFP)’ in France. He also holds a B.Sc in Chemical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Mr. Opam, as part of his work experience, was the Acting Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Ghana (2015-2016). He was the Senior Director for Technical Operations and Regulatory Economics at the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC). He served on the Board of Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) between 2006 and 2008. Mr. Opam also worked as a Technical Director at the Ministry of Energy (2006-2009) and as the Coordinating Secretary of the Ghana Power Sector Reform Committee that carried out the design, development and implementation of the Power Sector Reforms Programme in Ghana (1994-1997).
Mr. Michael Opam has provided extensive Consultancy Services to a number of Energy Sector Institutions in Ghana and abroad including the Ministry of Energy, Energy Commission, Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), UNIPETROL of Nigeria, KMR Power Limited (USA) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) among others.
